Parents, I highly recommend that you look at PowerSchool at least once a week. A week from Monday we begin quarter examinations, and the quarter ends on Friday, September 26. Even for responsible older students, it is important for parents to have an idea about how things are going.
PowerSchool is our primary communication tool about students' academic progress. I ask teachers to spend a lot of time putting grades and other information into PowerSchool, but I don't expect them also to call you and say, "I've entered grades into PowerSchool." Logging into PowerSchool and checking grades is one way to stay informed. Another way is to make your student responsible for reporting to you what is in PowerSchool. Some parents require their students to print out PowerSchool grades each Friday and let the results determine weekend plans.
When you see something in PowerSchool that puzzles or concerns you, I suggest that you first ask your student what is going on. Then you might want to email the teacher or leave a message at school for the teacher to call you. When there are concerns across the board (in several classes), you might want to set up a conference with all the teachers. You may call Mrs. Gregory at 901-767-4949 to set up an appointment. Our conferences are at 7:00 a.m.
Remember to log in to PowerSchool with your parent login. Using your student's login will keep you from seeing everything parents can see.
