Quarter examinations are over all material taught in the first quarter. Parents, I highly recommend that you look at PowerSchool at least once a week. A week from Monday we begin quarter examinations, and the quarter ends on Friday, September 26. Even for responsible older students, it is important for parents to have an idea about how things are going. PowerSchool is our primary communication tool about students' academic progress. I ask teachers to spend a lot of time putting grades and other information into PowerSchool, but I don't expect them also to call you and say, "I've entered grades into PowerSchool." Logging into PowerSchool and checking grades is one way to stay informed. Another way is to make your student responsible for reporting to you what is in PowerSchool. Some parents require their students to print out PowerSchool grades each Friday and let the results determine weekend plans. When you see something in PowerSchool that puzzles or concerns you, I suggest that you first ask your student what is going on. Then you might want to email the teacher or leave a message at school for the teacher to call you. When there are concerns across the board (in several classes), you might want to set up a conference with all the teachers. You may call Mrs. Gregory at 901-767-4949 to set up an appointment. Our conferences are at 7:00 a.m. Remember to log in to PowerSchool with your parent login. Using your student's login will keep you from seeing everything parents can see. Quarter examinations are over all material taught in the first quarter. It's always good to know where we are. This quarter is quickly zipping past us, and some students may be surprised at how soon we will be having quarter exams. This video is intended to let students (and parents) know were we are and how much time is left in the quarter. Parents of sophomores (Class of 2017) are invited to meet with school counselors and others on Tuesday night, September 9, at 6:30. Dr. Tim Stafford's eighth grade Bible classes are doing a project that requires massive quantities of Legos. If your children no longer play with Legos, would you be willing to donate them to eighth grade Bible? This would be a donation, not a loan. If you have Legos you are willing to give away, just send them to school with your student. Thanks! Email Dr. Stafford. The first quarter is a very short quarter. The last day of the quarter is September 26. Friday, September 5, is about the halfway point in the quarter. It's a great time to take stock of how things are going, determine whether grades are where students and their parents expect them to be, and make a plan for the second half of the quarter. The last week of the quarter we have quarter exams. The second quarter begins on Monday, September 29, which happens also to begin the week of homecoming. |
