Whew! Your child passed Algebra I, but it was just by the skin of his or her teeth! A final grade of D or a low C in Algebra I does not bode well for success in Algebra II next year. Algebra II is considered one of the most challenging mathematics courses in any school, and Harding is no exception. Students need a strong foundation in Algebra I as they enter Algebra II. Even if your student did not fail Algebra I, he or she might benefit from some summer review. Harding is offering Algebra I taught by Mrs. Pasco Howard. Classes will meet June 1–19, 8:00–11:00, Monday through Friday. The cost is $400 to be paid at the first class meeting. To register for this course, email Mrs. Howard [email protected].
Baccalaureate is 2:00 on Sunday, May 10. No ticket is required.
Parents Club Reception is 5:30 on Monday, May 11. Commencement is 7:30 on Monday, May 11. Admission is by ticket only. Our counselors have been working on our students' class schedules for next year. Usually, we don't get schedules done until some time in the summer, and we are excited about getting them into students' hands before school is out.
Please know that these schedules are not final. They are tentative. Sometimes during the process, we end up having to move something or change the instructor. If you find an error (such as two English classes and no Bible class), just let us know. The making of a master schedule is a complicated process that is hard to imagine unless you've lived in it. The more singletons (classes offered only one period) a student requests, the more difficult it is to get the schedule he wants. Know that we do our best to get students in the classes they prefer, but sometimes it is simply impossible. We will work with the student to get the best schedule for him that is possible. Here is information that will be made available to your students. These four documents should tell you everything you need to know about how semester examinations operate.
Parents of current juniors (seniors in the class of 2016) will meet on Thursday, May 14, at 6:30, to make plans and divide up jobs for next year. We hope each student will have at least one parent present.
Harding Academy's annual uniform resale will be May 18 and 19 in Sisson Gymnasium. Watch the Harding website for information about selling gently-worn uniforms (both lower and upper school). Click here for more information.
Harding's college counseling office plans many events designed to help both students and parents. Mrs. Banker, our college counselor, has sent parents and students emails about these events. Look at separate entries on my webpage (following this entry) about events that are coming up soon.
