For many years, the Monday after Fall Break has been an inservice day and, so, a holiday for students. That is not the case this year. Everyone will be back in classes on Monday, October 14, this year. On Monday, November 4, however, students will have a holiday while teachers get some professional development time with colleagues from other Christian schools in the Memphis area. Mark your calendars-- October 14 = a regular school day. November 4 = a holiday for students, inservice for teachers. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the drop-off and pick-up process during the construction time. I predict that things will get even smoother as we work through the next few days. Is your student getting off to a good start? I'll bet some homework has already been assigned, and conscientious students will want to stay on top of the homework. Parents should not have to supervise homework at the upper school level, but it never hurts to ask your student if he has homework and what his plan is for getting it done. With the start of a new year, we have the perfect opportunity to turn over a new leaf. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns. It would also be great for you to send your child to ask those questions himself. I am thankful for each family that is part of the Harding family, and I know we are going to have a great year. Meet the Teacher Night is this coming Monday night, August 19. That’s a different night from our traditional date—we hope to be avoiding some athletic conflicts with the change. Our Parents Club is hosting a time of fellowship and information beginning at 6:00 that evening, with the rotation to the classes beginning at 7:00. Please come to the elementary gymnasium to enjoy some light refreshments, pick up your student’s schedule, check your directory listing, and find out about opportunities to be involved at Harding. We hope every student will have at least one parent in attendance. Give yourself time to park and get into the building. If you arrive on campus at 7:05, you will miss first period! |
